Your treasure hunt with Ethical Crystals starts at a local cafe before convoying to the chosen fossicking location. Izzy, your local passionate gemstone educator and Lapidary artist, will review the types of gemstones in the area, why they formed there, and what you are hoping to find.

As you wander along creeks or through the bushland, Izzy will describe how the area formed millions of years ago and geological information of the region’s history. She will teach safe fossicking practices and guide you to find gemstones safely, responsibly, and entirely on you own. Fossicking with you, Izzy will assist you to find some beautiful gemstones, and help you identify them and learn their mineralogy.

The gemstones you find are yours to keep, however, you are encouraged to take only what you connect to. At the end of the tour you are welcome to remain onsite to continue fossicking or exploring the area. You may want to bring a picnic and enjoy the forest – or go for a walk to discover the giant Eucalypt cave!

This mindful nature experience is suitable for people with good mobility, and children over 5 years.

Inclusions

  • 1.5 – 3 hour guided fossicking session in the pristine bush.
  • Crystals to take home, of various types.
  • QLD Fossicking licence.
  • Gemstones can be custom cut and polished upon request (additional cost).

Making a difference

  • Ethical Crystals is a carbon neutral business.
  • They have a private Native Tree Planting project, raising natively collected seeds and planting bush tucker and carbon regenerative forests to remedy some of the damage caused by others in the Gemstone mining industry.
  • The Gemstone shop only stocks gemstones found via Australian fossicking, minimising any waste caused by importation.
  • The team collects litter as they fossick, cleaning up the bush one bit at a time.
  • Their experiences provide guests with a more in-depth connection to the land.

Getting there

This experience is held on Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi Country, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Locations vary and the address is provided prior to the day.

Price

From AU $35 per person or AU $40 for 1 parent and 1 child (5 years+), location dependent.
The minimum private group size is 15 people. Smaller private groups can be accommodated at an additional cost per person.
