There’s something special about strolling through a farmers market, coffee in hand, the smell of fresh produce in the air, and the buzz of a community coming together. Shopping locally means fresher, more nutritious food, fewer food miles, and directly supporting farmers, but it’s the connections both with growers and the local community that make them something truly special.
From the mountains to the coast and everywhere in between, farmers markets in NSW are among the best in the country. Here are eight you won’t want to miss.
Kiama Farmers Market

There aren’t many places in the world where you can buy your fresh fruit and veg and then go for a swim in the ocean straight after—but that’s exactly why the Kiama Farmers’ Market has made the list. Aside from a beautiful view, you’ll also be treated to more than 40 stalls stocking all the goodies you’d expect including the highest quality proteins in free-range pork, grass-fed wagyu and of course, freshly caught seafood which is abundant in the area.
With food trucks, live music and games for the kids, it’s no surprise that locals flock here every Wednesday afternoon.
When: every Wednesday, from 3-6pm from October to early April and 2-5pm from April to September.
Blackheath Growers Market

With over 60 stalls, the Blackheath Growers Market, in the heart of the Blue Mountains has everything you need and more. On top of your fruit and veg, you’ll find delicious baked bread and pastries, coffee beans, ferments and antipasto, plants and homemade soaps. Even your four-legged friends can enjoy some homemade treats!
Best of all, every product is 100% Australian grown and owned, supporting the local economy. Our tip: Go there hungry! Steamy paella, fresh-baked pretzels and kebabs served with warm pita will greet you on arrival and be very hard to resist!
When: 8am-12noon on the 2nd Sunday of every month.
Bellingen Growers Market

Just 30 minutes from Coffs Harbour, Bellingen is known for its lush scenery and waterfalls, but its diverse climate also makes it one of the best places in the country to grow top notch produce.
Run by volunteers for over 25 years, the Bellingen Growers Market goes the extra mile in supporting local artisan stalls and live local musicians also on offer each week. Don’t go past a loaf of organic woodfired sourdough from Hearthfire Bakery and treat yourself to fresh, native blooms from Boggy Creek Natives.
When: every Saturday (except the 3rd Saturday of the month) from 7.30am – 11.30am.
Mudgee Farmers Market

Once a month, the local community of Mudgee come together to catch up, grab a coffee and stock up on some of the best fresh produce NSW has to offer. And while the produce is definitely the star of the Mudgee Farmers Market, it’s their commitment to implementing and educating on green practices that sets them apart from the rest.
All stall holders are encouraged to use and implement sustainable agricultural methods in both their production and packaging in a bid to minimise the regions environmental footprint. (Don’t forget to grab yourself a sweet treat from Little Miss Swiss for the drive home!).
When: every third Saturday of the month, from 8.30am – 12.30pm.
Byron Farmers Market

It’s not hard to find farmers markets around Byron Bay, the region is known for them, which is probably why the Byron Farmers Market is one of the longest running in the country. The seaside town is known for its dedication to health and wellness practices and the weekly market is no different, with all suppliers subject to strict guidelines to ensure its locally grown.
Keep cups are highly encouraged here for your morning brew of choice but if you forget, don’t stress! Stall holders supply reusable and returnable cups to help reduce single-use plastics.
When: every Thursday from 7am-11am.
Carriageworks Farmers Market

Every Saturday morning, the iconic railyard transforms into a bustling community hub with producers travelling from across the state to sell their wares. Arguably one of the best farmers markets in Sydney, the Carriageworks Farmers Markets is the epicentre of Sydney’s culinary scene with all stallholders required to meet the highest standards to promote ease of access to farm-to-table dining.
Fresh flowers and delicious baked goods are the highlights here and if you’re intolerant to gluten, you’re in luck—head straight for Nonie’s Food, the revolutionary gluten free bakehouse selling all your favourites from sourdough to hot cross buns.

SAGE Farmers Market

Made up of growers, producers and consumers of food, SAGE is a not-for-profit group aiming to improve food security through educational community activities, social events and of course, their weekly market. This award-winning SAGE Farmers Market is hugely popular among the local south coast community and focuses on building the bridge between consumers and producers through face-to-face connection.
Don’t miss out on securing some of the fresh seafood for which the region is known and, for an extra thrill, arrive early and experience the excitement that ensues when the opening bell is rung.

Murwillumbah Farmers market

The vibrant community of Murwillumbah in NSW’s Northern Rivers sure knows how to put on a market. A weekly occurrence, Murwillumbah Farmers Market is more of a community catch up with locals gathering every Wednesday to tuck into the delicious food and be serenaded by the smooth sounds of local musicians.
The vibe is turned up a notch during school holidays when face painting and kids entertainment take centre stage. You’ll leave with a basket full of local goodies and a smile from ear to ear.
