Our guide to the best wellness experiences in Sydney
Sydney. Beneath its big-city energy, it’s a place that gently – and sometimes unexpectedly – invites you to come back to yourself. Maybe it’s the salt air, the easy shift from CBD to coastal trail, or the growing number of wellness retreats popping up across Sydney.
Then again, it could be the forest bathing walks and yoga meditation sessions now woven into everyday life. Whatever it is, wellness in this city is about more than smoothies and gym passes. It’s about reconnection – with nature, with movement, with your senses, with stillness.
Whether you’re visiting for the weekend or reawakening your sense of calm close to home, here’s your guide to the best wellness experiences Sydney has to offer.
Top wellness picks
If you’re short on time but big on intention, Sydney offers simple, soulful ways to drop back into your body.
One of my favourites? Jogging across Circular Quay at sunrise on the Harbour Sights Running Tour with Fit City Tours. Watching the Opera House catch the first light as your breath steadies and your thoughts clear is a movement and meditation in one. If a slower pace is calling, there’s no shortage of ways to meet it.
Across the city, bathhouses and day spas offer everything from short sauna sessions to full day immersions. Nature’s Energy, with three inner-Sydney bathhouses and day spas located in Glebe, Balmain, and Newtown, has you covered. With traditional and infrared saunas, red light therapy, ice baths, massages and facials – you won’t want to leave. We also suggest the luxurious Auriga Spa at Capella Sydney, where lunar-inspired rituals melt stress into stillness. And gosh, don’t we love that!
One of our favourite places to unwind is at the award-winning Billabong Retreat. Days here flow gently between guided yoga and meditation practices to unhurried bushland wanders, with plenty of time to simply rest and reconnect. This place offers that deep exhale energy – with added comforts like claw-foot tubs on the balcony, nourishing wholefood meals, and a range of serene room options designed for ultimate relaxation.
Looking for something a little more expressive? Book into a class at Sydney Dance Company and let movement become mindfulness in motion. Whether you’re gliding through a beginner contemporary class or finding your rhythm in an open ballet session, there’s something incredibly freeing about moving your body in a light-filled studio overlooking the water. Their family classes are a reminder that it’s not about getting it perfect – it’s about presence, play and reconnecting with the joy of movement.
Or, if you’re craving a sensory, creative kind of self-care, explore the wellness and beauty workshops at Little Lane. Their art classes will bring out your inner talents, while their macrame and handbuilt ceramics workshops are hands-on, joyfully therapeutic and the perfect way to take a piece of your calm home with you.

Natural wellness

Sydney’s outdoor spaces aren’t just scenic – they’re deeply restorative. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve reset my nervous system with a sunrise walk along the Bondi to Coogee trail, or the quieter Coogee to Maroubra stretch when I’ve needed to breathe without a crowd.
One of the most grounding mornings I’ve had here was seaside foraging with Diego Bonetto. Walking barefoot along the shoreline, learning to spot edible sea greens and wild herbs, I felt more connected to place – and to myself – than I had in weeks. Plus, it’ll make you rethink everything you thought you knew about weeds.
For deeper immersion, I recommend heading into the wild with Natcha Eco Tours. Their guided walks through the Royal National Park, La Perouse and Kamay Botany Bay Kurnell National Park are stories told through footsteps – sustainable, slow and full of heart.
If stillness is what you’re seeking, Mayu from Forest Minds offers forest bathing (shinrin yoku) experiences in Lane Cove National Park that gently guide you back into presence. Her walks aren’t about distance – they’re about depth. As you move slowly through the bush, you’re invited to tune into the scent of eucalyptus, the rustle of leaves, the texture of bark beneath your fingertips. It’s nature as medicine – subtle, powerful and deeply restorative.
Or, for something equally calming with a creative twist, bring your notebook and join a nature journalling walk through the Botanic Gardens of Sydney led by thoughtful guides, these sessions combine quiet observation with artistic play – no drawing skills required, just curiosity and a willingness to slow down.
If you’re feeling more physical, Sydney’s got that too. Hike the Hermitage Foreshore Walk, wander the leafy Cascades Trail, or make the climb to Barrenjoey Lighthouse – the views, and the peace, are well worth the effort.
Nourishing eats

Wellness doesn’t stop with movement and mindfulness – it extends to what we eat, how it’s grown and the stories behind it. In Sydney, food is where culture, nourishment and connection meet.
For the best way to feel good while doing good, the place to be on a weeknight is Refettoria OzHarvest Sydney. The Refettorio offers a free lunch made with love to those experiencing food insecurity, and every ticket sold to one of their delicious ‘Pay it Forward Dinners’ helps the team serve at least four people in need of a nutritious meal during their daytime service.
On the weekend, head to Carriageworks Farmers Market – a Saturday staple for locals. Grab a coffee and wander through stalls of small-batch sourdough, native herbs, medicinal mushrooms and gut-loving ferments. It’s a chance to slow down, connect and taste the season.
For a deeper dive into flavour and culture, join one of Maeve O’Meara’s Spice Trails Gourmet Food Safaris. These guided tours are a celebration of food as medicine – from the warming turmeric and cumin of Ayurveda curries to the gut-loving fermented vegetables and fragrant spice blends of Middle Eastern feasts. Alongside rich cultural stories and behind-the-scenes tastings, you’ll explore dishes brimming with spices long used to support digestion, reduce inflammation and boost vitality.
Located at The Rocks, 6HEAD is a hidden gem of a restaurant that offers a fabulous dining experience. Inspired by the first six head of cattle to arrive in Australia on the First Fleet, the focus at 6Head is very much on the best grass-fed and hormone-free protein, but the menu is packed with delicious dishes that cater to more than the carnivores and the service is second to none.
For our vegetarian friends, we can’t go past the incredible six-course tasting menu at Yellow. You’ll find it in Potts Point and get ready to be immersed in the vibrant world of plants, herbs and flowers. The talented culinary team has designed each dish to be a celebration of the freshest produce exclusively sourced from local farms around Sydney.
Where to stay
When it comes to wellness stays, Sydney blends city sophistication with soul-soothing calm. Capella Sydney, housed in a restored heritage building, offers earthy textures, warm lighting and cloud-soft bedding. For an energising complement to all that tranquillity, guests can join exclusive in-room Pilates classes led by Kirsten King of Fluidform – one of Australia’s most sought-after instructors. It’s the perfect balance of movement and mindfulness, right in the heart of the city.
If you’re craving an immersive nature experience without straying far from the city, Roar and Snore at Taronga Zoo offers a NSW glamping escape like no other. Tucked within the zoo’s grounds, safari-style tents overlook Sydney Harbour, offering a front-row seat to sunrise skies and twinkling city lights. The experience includes gourmet meals, intimate animal encounters and guided night safaris – all designed to deepen your connection with the natural world. Falling asleep to the calls of wildlife and waking to the glow of dawn over the harbour is both grounding and unforgettable.

Fly into Sydney Airport, which is around 20-30 minutes from the CBD. You can take a train, taxi, or rideshare to get where you need to go – all easy and efficient. While you’re in the city, trains, light rail, buses and ferries make exploring a breeze. But often, the most wellness-friendly way to move is on foot – coastal trails, hidden staircases and leafy laneways are part of the magic.
