A group of people enjoying a honey tasting at an outdoor table under the trees

Beehive to Table: A hands-on honey experience

Southern Highlands, New South Wales
28 Feb 26

This 2-hour immersive experience at Bowral Honey Farm in the NSW Southern Highlands begins with a guided introduction to the working apiary.

Then, after donning a beekeeper’s veil, observe the hives up close, tuning into the sounds, movements, and scents of the bees. We love that participants are guided in a simple yet powerful mindfulness practice amongst the bees that fosters calm, presence and a deeper connection to nature.

Plus, you’ll enjoy a curated honey tasting and a relaxed morning tea before getting hands-on. You’ll break down a freshly removed honey frame and take turns operating a traditional honey press, watching raw honey flow directly into jars!

Highlights

  • A small-group apiary experience, guided by an expert facilitator.
  • Guests learn how a colony functions, the role of the queen and workers, and how beekeeping follows seasonal rhythms.
  • Honey tasting and morning tea on the terrace overlooking the lake.
  • Enjoy a hands-on honey harvesting experience using a traditional press.
  • Each participant leaves with a jar of the honey they helped harvest and a piece of beeswax – a tangible reminder of this unique experience.

Making a difference

  • The honey and beeswax products offered are artisan, locally produced and reflect seasonal floral sources, encouraging an understanding of local ecosystems and seasonal cycles.
  • Tours and workshops actively teach about the environmental importance of bees and responsible beekeeping, which promotes awareness of biodiversity and pollinator health – key aspects of sustainable agriculture

“I love working amongst the bees and sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm of these remarkable pollinators. I’ve also found that guests to the Honey Farm are “my people” in that they are open to learning and connecting and tend to have a shared outlook on life, relationships and the world around them. To be alongside them on this journey is an honour and privilege.”
