Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary, located on the slopes of Hualālai volcano on the Island of Hawaiʻi, is a 30-acre family-stewarded sanctuary dedicated to reforestation, conservation and regenerative wellness.
Founded in 1982 by horticulturalist ‘Grandpa’ Norman Bezona, it has grown into a multi-generational family kuleana (responsibility) continuing his vision of restoring native forest ecosystems, and a belief that healthy forests equal healthy people. There’s fifteen acres of intentionally reforested cloud forest and 15 acres of preserved old growth forest and the mist, lava rock and towering canopy trees create a rare environment found in less than 1% of the world’s forests.
The teams’ mission is rooted in ‘connecting humanity back to nature’ and expert naturalists and wellness guides lead immersive eco-tours, sound bath meditations, slow-flow forest yoga, forest bathing, and restorative day retreats designed for deep rest, reflection and connection. Monthly mālama ʻāina (to care for the land) volunteer days and educational programs invite guests to actively participate in restoration and stewardship.
We love that visitors can also stay at Hale Pūnana (The Nest), a secluded luxury jungle retreat sleeping 11 guests across five private rooms and 3 bathrooms.
