8 of the best Aboriginal experiences in Australia

02 Jul, 2025

There’s something incredibly grounding about connecting with Country through the stories, traditions and voices of First Nations people. Across Australia, Indigenous-led experiences offer travellers the chance to walk alongside the oldest living culture in the world to learn, listen and feel in a way that stays with you long after the journey ends.

From learning local dialects in Byron Bay to foraging for bush tucker in Western Australia, our favourite Indigenous experiences are ones that go far deeper than just sightseeing. Instead, these are ones that will open your eyes and ask you to see the land through a whole new lens.

Karkalla on Country

Cavenbah - Byron Bay, New South Wales

There is no better way to understand the Indigenous culture than through food and no one understands this more than proud Bundjalung woman, Mindy Woods.

The first Indigenous woman to be awarded an AGFG chef’s hat, Mindy now shares her passion for native ingredients with you in a 3-hour culinary experience that begins with a guided walk on Country and ends with canapes and a 4-course native-inspired meal. Small group sizes ensure there is space to make true connections and get the most out of the truly unique experience.

Bookabee Australia

Tarndanya - Adelaide, South Australia

Adelaide’s Botanical Gardens on Kaurna Country are often admired, but rarely do visitors walk away with a real understanding of what’s rooted in the landscape around them. Discover how these native plants have been used for thousands of years by joining an experienced Aboriginal guide from Bookabee on a walk through the gardens, in one of the most unique things to do in Adelaide.

From bush foods and natural medicines to tools and traditions, you’ll gain not only valuable knowledge but also a new perspective on how their deep interconnection is key to living in harmony with the land.
